Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but to me, a great cocktail bar is about more than just good drinks. It’s about the atmosphere, the vibe, the decor—and most of all, the experience. A truly memorable bar tells a story and transports you somewhere else. A lot of places can make good (expensive) drinks, but only a few stand out.
Prague isn’t just a beer city — it’s got plenty of cocktail bars that can offer a vibing atmosphere or more intimate setting, depending on what you’re into. Prague has a lot to offer but it presents a choice overload: how do you choose a place that fits your vibe and expectation out of many?
I wanted to write a short blog post about my favourite cocktail places in Prague because I know it can be an overwhelming exercise. Personally, I appreciate a special experience, amazing drinks and atmosphere. By no means is this list exhaustive, as I haven’t visited every place in Prague, but I’ve done plenty of experimenting and visited some unique and memorable bars, as well as a few that stood out for the wrong reasons. So here goes!
Café Bar Pilotu
Hands down, my favourite cocktail bar in Prague.
Café Bar Pilotu is tucked inside an old cinema building, which adds to its charm and story. It’s located in Prague 10 — nicely off the beaten path and far from the usual tourist traps. If you want to start your evening right, pop into Kino Pilotů next door, a cozy local cinema showing everything from Hollywood hits to indie festival gems, both Czech and international.
Now, back to the bar.
This bar nails the balance of class, intimacy, and atmosphere. It’s got a quiet confidence, gorgeous interiors, and one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Among the classics, the menu also features original creations by each of the bartenders — each drink paired with a personal story about how it came to be. I tried to find the best photos that carry the vibe of the place, but I feel like none of the photos do justice. You just have to go there to really experience it!
Drink recommendation: any of the drinks authored by their bartenders (changes after every few months).
Reservation: recommended, especially during the weekend.
Kontakt Bar
Kontakt Bar is a small, NYC-style dive bar tucked away in Prague 1 — easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Inside, the space is sleek and cozy: exposed brick walls, tiny wooden tables, dark leather sofas, and dim lighting that creates an alluring, intimate vibe.
But don’t let the simplicity fool you—the drinks are anything but basic. The menu is short and focused, with a handful of perfectly crafted cocktails. You won’t find endless options here, and that’s the point. The bartenders know their stuff and will happily guide you — this place is all about quality over quantity.
Bonus points: they host stand-up comedy every Thursday (if you like your cocktails with a side of laughter), and acoustic live music every Friday, perfect for setting the mood.
Whether you’re on a date or just catching up with a friend, Kontakt strikes that rare balance of laid-back and refined. Come curious — you’ll probably leave with a new favorite drink.
Drink recommendation: The Speakeasy – Old Fashioned with Homemade Brown Sugar Simple Syrup with Bulleit Bourbon & Bitters.
Reservation: recommended, especially during the weekend.
Anonymous Shrink’s Office
This one is special. The experience starts even before you step inside.
The entrance is hidden within the American restaurant Ideas Are Bulletproof. Look for a red button on the wall — that’s your signal. Press it, and a waiter from the cocktail bar will emerge from the basement to guide you down. If you’re unsure, just ask the bartender for help. And heads up: the door is very well hidden, so watch you don’t get smacked by it when it swings open.
Yes, the bar is popular among tourists, but honestly — it’s earned it. The concept is unique and doesn’t lose its charm. When you walk in, you’re handed a Rorschach test — those iconic inkblot images psychologists use to reveal subconscious thoughts. Your answers determine your cocktail. No names, no ingredients, no spoilers. It’s playful, mysterious, and shockingly on point. One of mine came with a flaming herb garnish and a backstory about “unresolved dreams.” Go figure.
The interior is equally immersive: dim lighting, vintage décor, worn leather armchairs, and shelves stacked with dusty books and peculiar trinkets. It feels like a cross between an old study and a psychologist’s lounge — but with better drinks and fewer questions about your childhood.
If you’re into storytelling, surprises, or just want a bar night that’s anything but ordinary, this place is a must. Go with an open mind — and maybe a little emotional baggage, just for fun.
Drink recommendation: trust your emotions and feelings, the test will determine your drink.
Reservation: an absolute must.
Final Thoughts:
There’s no shortage of bars in Prague — but finding the ones with real character, great drinks, and a story to tell? That takes a bit more digging. These three spots — Café Bar Pilotu, Kontakt Bar, and Anonymous Shrink’s Office — each offer something more than just a good cocktail. They create moments. Whether it’s a quiet evening with a perfectly mixed drink or a quirky night guided by your subconscious, these bars stand out for all the right reasons.
If you’re visiting Prague or living here and want to experience the city beyond the usual tourist checklist, I hope this guide points you toward a memorable night out.
